ACT THREE
FADE IN:

EXT. PAINTED CAVE, SANTA CRUZ CHANNEL ISLAND, CHANNEL ISLAND NATIONAL PARK, CALIFORNIA, LATE MORNING
As the only time of day to safely make your way through the caves is late morning, scene takes place then. This time of day will also promote more light coming into the openings of the cave giving better results for filming and photography.
The YOUNG BOY sits in a small rowboat, sitting between the main island of Santa Cruz and the smaller rock right off the coast. The water is rocking the kayak back and forth. He finds the entrance to the cave. It has a big mouth but quickly gets smaller. The BOY is unsure how far the cave will go or is actually a passageway to the other side of the island.
He decides to enter. He goes deeper into the cave, paddling his way through; the light diminishing quicker and quicker. He reaches the center of the cave where the tiniest opening above reveals a small glimmer of sun-light. This small amount of light allows the him to see the walls of the cave and through the water, the ocean floor.
Unsure of how to feel about, the BOY continues along the route – there is an eerie quietness that stretches throughout the cave. He realizes the cave has an exit separate from the entrance - it is indeed a passage.
It is crucial he doesn’t linger too long, as the tide will rise soon and will make it impossible to exit until the next day. He heads toward the exit where the light is beginning to fill the spacious cave.
The exit way is much smaller than the cave, so he must duck a bit to be able to make clearance of the cave’s exit. On this side of the island, the ocean is remains rough, however, it is much rockier and strenuous that in-side the cave.
